Leeds United defeated Tottenham 1-0 in a dramatic clash at Elland Road.
There wasn’t the most quality on display in the final third between the two sides, but there was no shortage of drama.
Aside from Noah Okafor’s winner off the bench, the main talking points were some of the refereeing decisions in the game.
Leeds had a penalty shout in the first half turned away for handball. At first, it looked as though Mateus Fernandes had blocked a cross into the box with his arm, but an alternate replay showed that it just came off the Portuguese midfielder’s shoulder.
However, there was an incident between Jayden Bogle and Mathys Tel which caused uproar on talkSPORT.
Jamie O’Hara believes Jayden Bogle should’ve been sent off
When watching the game live on talkSPORT with Jason Cundy, Jamie O’Hara was left gobsmacked that United weren’t down to ten men after Bogle trod on Tel’s Achilles.
The incident was reviewed by VAR for what felt like an eternity. However, in the end, Bogle did not even pick up a booking for the challenge, and to say O’Hara was not happy with the decision would be an understatement.
“Why is the VAR sitting there scratching his head? It’s a red card,” O’Hara said.
“It’s a red card; I agree with you,” Cundy replied.
“Why are we still watching it? It’s been five minutes,” O’Hara continued.
“Who is this clown? Why are we watching some idiot sat behind a desk discussing this red card? It’s a red!”
When O’Hara found out that Bogle was going to escape any punishment for his challenge, he said.
“You’re having a laugh; it’s not a red, that’s a disgrace, that’s the worst decision I’ve ever seen.”
When considering we walked away with all three points, watching O’Hara lose his mind is an absolutely fantastic watch!
Jayden Bogle’s tackle was never a red card
O’Hara’s frustration is understandable when considering that he is a Spurs fan.
However, never in a million years was Bogle’s challenge a red card.
Was it clumsy? Absolutely. In fact, I’m shocked that Bogle didn’t receive a booking for the challenge.
But to send someone off for something so accidental on the halfway line would’ve been criminal.
If Bogle went in with a lot more force, then yeah, a red card would’ve been warranted. But this wasn’t the case.
I don’t expect O’Hara to admit he’s wrong, but deep down, the former midfielder will know that if Bogle was dismissed, it would’ve been soft.
