Leeds United lacked any sort of attacking quality against Bournemouth on Saturday, and it’s up to Daniel Farke to find new solutions.
The issue that Daniel Farke is facing right now is that his focus on a stern defensive structure is that we’ve gone too far that way. Our attack is looking absolutely feeble right now.
Even in throwing on multiple subs against Bournemouth, nothing changed as we trudged to a woeful 2-0 defeat.
Could Daniel Farke reconsider formation change as Leeds United’s attack falters?
A possible solution for this lack of output in the final third could be changing formations. The back three has been a key source of our success over the last 11 months, but it’s going stale.
The defensive solidity wasn’t there against the Cherries, as we shipped two. And at the other end, we didn’t lay a glove on the home side, not helped by the fact that most of our influence has to come from attacking wing-backs.
Jayden Bogle and Gabriel Gudmundsson weren’t at their brilliant best, and it highlights the lack of variation in our current play.
Therefore, you could make a strong argument that changing to a back four and getting another attacking player on the pitch might help Farke immensely.
Melvin Bard surely wondering when he’ll play for Leeds United after Bournemouth snub
Speaking of full-backs, Farke’s change in the second half to bring on more attackers saw Gudmundsson hooked. However, with a left-back on the bench, James Justin stayed on the pitch and shifted over to a less natural left-sided role.
Melvin Bard was an unused sub for the sixth of his seven league games on our books. The Frenchman will have known Premier League starts would be in short supply, thanks to Gudmundsson being the main man.
Although, even with Gudmundsson not offering us much in the final third against the Cherries, Bard was overlooked.
The 25-year-old joined on a season-long loan from Nice, with an option to buy set at £4.3million. What we’re seeing currently is that the left-back is having to be incredibly patient to get a sniff in the league.
It’s a tough one for Farke because Gudmundsson will always be the undisputed starter. That said, Bard watched on as a right-footer was shifted across the defence to replace the Swede, which won’t have been great to witness as he remained on the bench.
Sad but Farke have lost it at Leeds Utd. No future for him and the Club must get rid of him after the season.
