We’re not even a week into November, and there has already been plenty of transfer talk regarding Leeds United.
Recently, reports emerged that suggest that Leeds could potentially make a move to sign Folarin Balogun in January. However, this seems unlikely.
Conor Gallagher has been another name mentioned. But again, I’d be stunned if a deal for the midfielder ever materilaised and especially in January.
And now, more reports have come out linking us with another winger. But to me, all this talk seems a little premature.
Leeds United “monitoring” Miguel Sierra ahead of potential move
Miguel Sierra, 22, is the latest name to be linked with Leeds, via Football Insider.
Their report claims that United are “monitoring” the winger, who currently plays for Sevilla in La Liga.
A potential move is said to be unlikely in January. Our attempt to sign Sierra is reportedly set to come next summer.
The Spaniard has a release clause £16million and Sevilla are demanding that this release clause be met if another club wants to sign Sierra.
So far this season, the youngster has started eight out of Sevilla’s 11 La Liga games, scoring two goals.
Last season, he only made four La Liga appearances and failed to score or assist in that time. Typically, Sierra plays out on the right wing where he can cut onto his left foot.
Although the potential fee for Sierra seems like something we could afford next summer, I still think talk of adding another young winger to our ranks is a little premature.
Jean-Matteo Bahoya could make Miguel Sierra irrelevant to Leeds
Although Jean-Matteo Bahoya is naturally a left winger, we’ve already seen Daniel Farke deploy him on the right flank in some capacity this season.
In his press conference last week, Farke essentially said that because Bahoya was not a regular at Frankfurt, he was not ready to contribute consistently for the Whites in the Premier League.
This is despite Bahoya making 27 Bundesliga appearances and eight Champions League appearances last season. In this time, he scored three goals and provided four assists.
In the two seasons prior, Bahoya also made a combined 32 Bundesliga appearances. So, in other words, despite being younger than Sierra, he already has far more top-flight experience.
If it’s too early for Bahoya to contribute for us, then it certainly would be for Sierra. He’s only ever made 12 La Liga appearances up to this point. (Sofascore)
We also have an obligation to buy Bahoya for £25.7million if he makes a certain number of appearances, so the 49ers clearly rate him.
Over the summer, our managing director Robbie Evans said it was up to Farke to develop Bahoya and give him opportunities in the first team.
So if Bahoya develops as the 49ers would hope, surely there wouldn’t be much need for Sierra. Spending a combined £41.7million potentially on two young wingers in the same window would not be a wise use of resources.
