Opta’s supercomputer delivers decisive Bournemouth vs Leeds United verdict
Leeds United square off against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium this afternoon.
Before Daniel Farke went on his lengthy rant about Jean-Matteo Bahoya, our manager confirmed that Nico Elvedi has recovered from the illness that ruled him out against Sunderland last week. Anton Stach also remains a doubt.
Ian Wright predicted we will lose on our trip to the south coast. On the other hand, Jamie Carragher believes we will pick up another point on the road.
Chris Sutton was in agreement with Carragher, with the former Blackburn striker thinking Farke’s men will draw the game 1-1. So the pundits have had their say, but what does Opta’s supercomputer think?
Opta’s supercomputer not confident at all in Leeds United ahead of Bournemouth clash
The Whites took on out-of-form sides in Sunderland and Man United in their last two games, where we were favourites going into the match. However, the same certainly cannot be said for Bournemouth.
The Cherries have won their last five games in a row in all competitions. In comparison, our last win came against Newcastle, which feels a lifetime ago at this stage.
Bournemouth have not just won their last five games. They’ve also kept five clean sheets too whilst beating the likes of Man United and AC Milan.
So whilst Bournemouth are a side who aren’t conceding at the minute, we’re having our own struggles in the final third. Farke’s side have only found the back of the net twice in their last four outings.
When considering all this, it’s no surprise that Opta’s supercomputer is predicting Bournemouth to win. However, the margin by which they are predicted to win is staggering.
Marco Rose’s side are said to have a 51.2% chance of winning today. On the other hand, our chances of winning sit at just 24%. This means the chance of the game ending in a draw is 24.8%.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin cannot be as isolated today
I think we all know it will be a good result if we can return to West Yorkshire with even just a point.
However, it will be much harder to leave the Vitality with a positive result if Dominic Calvert-Lewin is as isolated as he was against Sunderland last week.
We saw this frequently at times last season in away games, and it looks as though it is a trend that has been carried forward into this campaign too.
We simply do not get enough bodies around him to ensure Calvert-Lewin is as effective as he can be in these tricky away fixtures.
In our last two away games against Sunderland and Arsenal, he’s not even had a shot. This speaks to the lack of service the Englishman is given whilst we are on the road.
At some point this has to change. Hopefully we do notice a change today by being more of an offensive threat.
