Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu was asked about who could be the next talent to break out of our U21s.
A key facet of clubs that establish themselves in the top half of the Premier League – and therefore something Leeds United need to nail down – is having a steady flow of academy graduates capable of making an impact.
It’s not been a source of pride of late, with only Archie Gray really having that sort of impact. However, Ethan Ampadu expects a breakout under Daniel Farke.
Ethan Ampadu tips Leeds United teen Callum Mills for bright future
After an encouraging pre-season as a core part of Leeds’ travelling squad in the US, plus fixtures closer to home, Callum Mills is hoping he can continue producing impressive performances in the youth ranks.
His efforts during the summer and at Thorp Arch are clearly catching the eye of his teammates and the senior squad.
Captain Ampadu was speaking to the Premier League’s TikTok account. In this mini-interview, he was asked to name one player he is ‘tipping for big things’.
“Callum Mills,” Ampadu responded. “I think he’s shown people in pre-season already why he’s done so well.”
Leeds United need talent breaking through from U21s to save and earn millions
Put simply, the financial aspect of having academy youngsters breaking into the first team is massive.
It’s a crude way of looking at homegrown talent. But if Leeds want to establish as a top-half powerhouse, having these players coming through is vital.
They make a lot of money for the club either through great performances in the Premier League or through sales as ‘pure profit’. It’s an area Leeds haven’t exactly had great success in during the last few seasons, but need to going forward.
The way Mills performed in pre-season, and how he’s done in the U21s, is exciting stuff.
Callum Mills the next trouble for our manager.
Then he must be loaned out to nobody so Brenden keep his place.
