The fact that Leeds United are sitting in 7th place in the Premier League after eight games is enough to make any supporter happy.
However, with Manchester United’s struggles so far in the new campaign, this has given us all even more reasons to smile.
Some of their most notable players, Lisandro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes, have recently hit out at the club in recent interviews as the chaos continues to ensue at Old Trafford.
Man United are winless in their last eight games in all competitions. So it seems inevitable that Michael Carrick will lose his job as manager. However, this talk has prompted a pair of Man United legends to make a baffling claim regarding Leeds United’s Daniel Farke.
Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes quickly shut down Daniel Farke to Man Utd talk
When Man United got demolished 3-0 by Bournemouth at Old Trafford over the weekend, I thought the news would emerge that same evening that Carrick had been sacked.
Comically, this wasn’t the case despite our rivals sitting in 16th in the Premier League. Recent reports suggest Carrick will still be in charge for their upcoming game against Chelsea on Saturday.
Regardless of the result at the weekend, Carrick’s sacking seems inevitable at one stage this season. As Leeds fans, we’re just loving all the meltdown that is going on at their place at the minute.
However, in a video that was posted on The Good, The Bad & The Football’s social media, former Man United players Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes were asked to say yes or no to some potential next Man United managers.
Surprisingly, Farke was one of the names mentioned.
But to nobody’s surprise, Butt and Scholes quickly shut the idea down.
“No, Leeds? Come on!” Scholes said.
“No chance”, said Butt when giving his input.
Comical take from Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes
I’ll start by saying I don’t even think Farke would entertain taking the job at Old Trafford. Mainly due to his affinity with us and the fact that that job is a poisoned chalice.
But the fact that Scholes and Butt are so dismissive of a manager who has a fraction of the resources of Carrick and has outperformed him to this point in the season is laughable.
I don’t think Farke is good enough for a job of that calibre either, in all honesty. But Scholes and Butt saying no to Farke but yes to Roy Keane becoming their manager is laughable.
Keane hasn’t managed since he was sacked by Ipswich over 15 years ago!
But yeah, they’d rather have him than Farke. The German bucked the trend of promoted teams getting relegated and reached an FA Cup semi-final last season. Farke is currently on course to stabilise us as a midtable Premier League side again this season.
I’m sure Keane ‘knows the club’ and the ‘United way’. As well as all the other buzzwords and phrases Man United’s former players love to come out with.
But to suggest the Irishman would be more suited than Farke for any Premier League job in 2026 is wrong.
Personally, I think this whole mentality of getting someone in at Man United who ‘knows the club’ is what holds them back a lot of the time. So I hope they continue to make this mistake going forward.
Hopefully Keane succeeds Carrick on the touchline at Old Trafford. That way we all get to sit and watch that implode sooner rather than later too.
