It’s been hit and miss so far for Leeds United’s summer signings.
To put it politely, Harry Wilson has been dreadful to this point for United. We haven’t seen enough from the likes of Melvin Bard, Jean-Matteo Bahoya or Michael Zetterer to make an accurate evaluation of their abilities.
However, James Trafford, Nico Elvedi and Tarik Muharemovic have all proven to be valuable parts of Daniel Farke’s starting XI consistently this season.
And now, in the aftermath of our game against Sunderland, a former Manchester United player has made a disrespectful claim regarding one of our new signings.
Owen Hargreaves tips Tarik Muharemovic for a ‘bigger move’
Since arriving from Sassuolo for £34million this summer, Muharemovic has stood out immediately as one of our better players already.
The Bosnian is quick, good in the air and silky on the ball. Combine all this with the fact he is just 23, and he looks to be an absolutely incredible acquisition for the 49ers.
However, despite being in West Yorkshire for just two minutes, Owen Hargreaves has already tipped Muharemovic to secure a major move away from Elland Road.
Speaking on punditry duties for Premier League Productions after our goalless stalemate with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, Hargreaves had this to say about Muharemovic.
“The goalkeeper and defence don’t concede much. Defensively, Leeds are a very good side. Muharemovic, the left-footed centre-back, is only 23.
“I think he’s going to go on to an even bigger move; he’s been terrific.”
Hargreaves’ comments come just a few weeks after reports linked Muharemovic with a move to Bayern Munich for £60million. Although this was shut down soon after, it’s clear that Muharemovic’s performances at Leeds are certainly not flying under the radar.
Owen Hargreaves’ Tarik Muharemovic comments come across as dismissive of Leeds
To already be talking about Muharemovic earning an “even bigger” move away already despite making just 10 appearances for the Whites is just disrespectful from Hargreaves.
When Muharemovic joined us, he signed a contract until 2031.
So why are we just expected to roll over and give up our defender after he’s had 10 good games?
If Muharemovic continues to perform how he has been for us whilst also developing, it will cost clubs an arm and a leg to sign him.
And who’s to say Muharemovic would even want to leave? Imagine in a few years if we were in Europe and Muharemovic was one of the pillars of our team. Perhaps he’d believe that the best place to continue his development would be at Leeds.
This obsession from pundits with teams outside the ‘top six’ selling their best players is so frustrating.
Leeds aren’t back in the Premier League to just make up the numbers. We want to be competing in the upper echelons of the division. If we do end up selling Muharemovic, it will be on our terms, for a monster fee.
But we’re not even in November yet, and all the talk around Muharemovic is him potentially leaving. The defender is already at a massive football club; let us enjoy watching Muharemovic in our famous white shirt.
