Leeds United will not be signing Mykhailo Mudryk this deadline day as he prepares to join Spurs on loan with a staggering buy option.
United’s deadline day cannot pass by quietly like several have done in recent memory. Three positions are needing more depth than we currently have, and one is already being ticked off.
Melvin Bard is set to join as a left-back, leaving the attack in need of focus throughout the rest of deadline day.
Leeds United won’t be signing Mykhailo Mudryk – £75million Spurs loan-to-buy deal agreed
For the past fortnight or so, Leeds have been interested in signing Mykhailo Mudryk on loan from Chelsea. The issue has been Leeds’ ability to agree a viable deal with the Stamford Bridge club.
Mudryk, though, was keen on Leeds and keen on remaining in the Premier League. So, when Spurs came to the table on Monday, it swatted United to the side in talks.
Now, it looks as though the North London club will land the 25-year-old winger. Importantly, it’s revealed that Spurs’ deal to sign Mudryk comes with a staggering £75million buy option.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano. He reports of Spurs’ willingness to again pay top dollar to a Premier League rival.
No wonder Leeds United didn’t agree Mykhailo Mudryk transfer with Chelsea
Looking at the way Spurs have gone about their business this summer, it’s obvious why they’ve managed to hijack our talks here.
They have been paying truly massive sums to sign players from their league rivals. So far, it’s not bore fruit in the Premier League with two embarrassing defeats, and that’s probably why they’ve kicked into overdrive.
This deal to sign Mudryk makes sense for Roberto De Zerbi, but this spending is hard to comprehend.
It’s hardly a shock that we’ve not been able to agree a deal when Spurs are willing to throw their entire bank balance at these sorts of signings. That’s not a deal that makes any sense for Leeds, on top of guaranteeing playing time, which we won’t do.
So much for him desperately wanting to play for Leeds. He just desperately wanted to stay on Premiership wages. Good luck, they probably deserve each other.
Chasing Mudryk was never a viable option. Chelsea set the transfer bar so high, that we should have walked away days ago.
Why we were not able to clinch deals on more affordable/viable alternatives up front, staggers belief.
There is always so much talk about ” looking at,”considering”, interest shown” in a myriad of players, yet nothing seems to gel together. Its all talk and no action.
We appreciate that it tough out there to get the right players at the right price but why look at them if they are beyond our means, in the first place! So frustrating for the supporters.
Hopefully, the January window brings some tastier offerings, which we can jump into without so much procrastination. MOT.
Whilst the sentiment is correct that £75m is a crazy amount, so many inaccuracies .. This isn’t an obligation and mainly down to Chelsea’s huge number of amortisation years. At no point has anyone guaranteed Mudyk playing time so could be simply a years loan with player then going back to Chelsea .. Main problem for Leeds would highly likely be his £100k a week wages for a player who may or may not play.
Spurs look like they robbed a bank, think this window they have well and truly overspent, glad we never spent that much on him, good player or was but £75m plus loan fee too much good luck with that one?
know your place Malcolm , leeds utd are a club to make up the numbers and one who will never win a major trophy again in their history, well , maybe the second division title
£75M for a player who’s not played a competitive game for over a year is total madness. Fair does to Chelsea tho for unloading yet another player for megabucks, on top of Cucurella, Delap, Santos and Jackson all for £50M plus. Will be interesting to see Spurs accounts at the end of the season
