Leeds United goalkeeper Lucas Perri, on loan at Torino, has been called up for the Brazil squad ahead of the November internationals.
United loaned out a host of players during the summer window. The reason being that a lot of these assets wouldn’t have commanded the desired permanent fee if they were sold there and then.
Lucas Perri was one of those. Replaced by Karl Dalrow last season, and then James Trafford in the summer, he moved on loan to Torino in the Serie A.
Lucas Perri resurgence outlined away from Leeds United with Brazil call-up
Perri’s start to life in Italy wasn’t that great for Torino. He initially struggled to keep clean sheets and was at fault for a handful of goals as his side traded blows with their league rivals.
However, there has been an uptick of late, with the Turin club now sitting ninth in the table. Three successive league wins were scuppered by a 3-1 defeat away at Cesc Fabregas’ Como, but Perri’s stock is on the rise.
In the last two, he’s not been helped by some sloppy defending and mistakes. But, there was an outstanding save during the crucial 3-2 win over Monza.
His performances are being recognised away from Turin, though. Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed his Brazil squad for upcoming international fixtures against Ao Tanaka’s Japan and Singapore.
Perri has called up:
Liverpool star Alisson Becker is absent from the squad. Ancelotti was quizzed on his decision to favour Perri over the 34-year-old stalwart. He insists he’s exploring his other options:
“We don’t need to test Alisson [for example],” Ancelotti said, per ESPN. “We know him very well. He is the best goalkeeper.
“When the Copa América begins, he will be called up, and it’s the same for the others. Right now, it’s time to observe, refresh the squad, and help young players reach their full potential.”
Chances of £12m Leeds United windfall boosted by Lucas Perri’s Brazil call-up
If Torino continue their upward surge towards European contention with Perri in goal, that could be huge for our chances of selling him.
He’s a character I really want to see doing well away from Leeds. He had some remarkable performances last season in spite of the mistakes outweighing them.
And, with this loan to Torino, he’s one that is definitely enjoying his time so far. His loan there could be made permanent with a £12million option.
Being called up for Brazil might make that transfer fee much more likely.
