Two of Leeds United’s summer signings have endured opposite starts to life in West Yorkshire.
There’s been quite a lot of talk this week regarding Harry Wilson’s lacklustre start to his Leeds career. Especially after his performance against Sunderland last weekend.
However, one transfer who has slotted into Daniel Farke’s starting XI seamlessly is Tarik Muharemovic.
Already, the Bosnian centre-back looks to be one of our best players. Now former Leeds manager Simon Grayson has made a sensational transfer claim regarding the 23-year-old.
Simon Grayson claims Tarik Muharemovic ‘loves Leeds’ amid transfer speculation
It’s not even been four months since Muharemovic put pen to paper on a five-year contract with Leeds following his £34million move from Sassuolo. Yet, he’s already been linked with a move away.
Barcelona, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich have been some of the names mentioned. Whilst no reliable source has confirmed these rumours yet, the fact that Muharemovic is already being linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs shows just how good he’s been for United.
However, despite all the transfer talk regarding the defender, Grayson believes Muharemovic is happy where he is for now.
“I’m not ignorant enough to think he doesn’t have aspirations to one day play for some of the biggest clubs in the world,” the former Leeds manager told BBC Sport.
“But right now? Sometimes a player is at home with a certain club, and I get that feeling with Muharemovic. I get the impression he loves Leeds, he loves the city, and he loves the supporters.”
In the same article for BBC Sport, former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson claimed that Muharemovic has done an excellent job in replacing Pascal Struijk, who left to join Brighton over the summer.
“There were a lot of eyebrows raised when Leeds sold Struijk,” Robinson said.
“The biggest compliment you can pay Muharemovic is that nobody is talking about Struijk leaving. He has been an outstanding signing.”
Refreshing to hear Simon Grayson’s Tarik Muharemovic take
Last weekend, after our game against Sunderland, Owen Hargreaves tipped Muharemovic to go and move on to a bigger club already.
However, Grayson’s analysis of Muharemovic adds far more context.
We all know Muharemovic will likely go on to play at an elite level at some point during his career. Whether Leeds, as a club, can develop as quickly as he can in the meantime to match his ambitions remains to be seen.
But this early in his United career, there’s no way he’s going to be immediately looking to leave. Especially with how we as a club have taken to the defender, as Grayson correctly highlighted.
If eventually we have to sell him, we’ll get a massive fee for him and reinvest. Then we can continue towards building to a point where players of Muharemovic’s quality are happy to spend their prime years at United.
