Daniel Farke came in for a lot of criticism after Leeds United’s defeat to Bournemouth. It could be worse, though, as multiple other clubs struggle further down.
United are sitting mid-table in the Premier League after nine games, but winless in the last five and looking incredibly short of attacking inspiration.
As a result, there have been questions asked of what Daniel Farke has in store to rectify this shortcoming. I don’t believe it should be a case of his job here being called into question, but form needs addressing to get us back to stability and relative comfort.
While Farke works through these issues, other clubs are on the verge of actual crisis. Here, I look at five managers in greater distress and under more pressure than Farke…
Michael Carrick – Man Utd
A chief frustration for Leeds so far is that we’ve not put some of these vulnerable and out-of-form sides to the sword. The volume of draws is not great when a lot of them were winnable.
Man Utd at Elland Road were one of those sides. Michael Carrick has been staring down the barrel since that game, battered by Como in the Champions League days later, before being thumped by Bournemouth and comfortably beaten by Chelsea.
Time is running out for Carrick, very clearly.
Tonight, they host Gianpiero Gasperini’s Roma. The Italian side have lost just once this season, a 4-3 thriller against Real Madrid. Only Barcelona have scored more goals this season than Gasperini’s free-flowing side, and that spells trouble for the hapless Carrick.
He could be gone this time tomorrow if this game gets away from him.
