Leeds United take on Man Utd at Elland Road looking to compound the misery on Michael Carrick's side.
Leeds United goalkeeper Lucas Perri has been called up for Brazil this month, but is subject to more criticism at Torino.
James Trafford is looking to dust himself off this week and recover from a howler against Bournemouth last time out.
Away from Elland Road, out-on-loan goalkeeper Lucas Perri is hoping he can justify Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to bring him into the Brazil squad for November’s internationals.
Leeds United’s Lucas Perri handed harsh Torino review after 2-0 Serie A defeat
Despite Brazil recognition for Perri, club football continues to take focus. However, it was a fall back down to earth on Sunday.
A trip to newly-promoted and high-flying Frosinone brought a frustrating 2-0 defeat. Perri started in goal and was unfortunate to ship the opener, watching a huge deflection leave him wrong-footed down his near post.
Late in added time, the hosts made sure of the win as Giacomo Calo wrapped a great effort from the edge of the box into the far corner. Perri’s blushes were spared in between the two goals, though, as his woeful pass was intercepted, only for Frosinone to be denied by two goal-saving blocks from Torino’s defence.
On Tuesday, Italian outlet Tori.it published a full piece grilling Perri’s contribution to the defeat. In which they harshly criticise his inability to save both goals, plus his “glaring errors” that weren’t punished.
“Throughout the match against the Ciociari, Perri never proved decisive,” the report reads. “Although the saves he was called upon to make were not particularly demanding, he still could not prevent Torino from conceding twice.
“Moreover, in the second half, the Brazilian committed two glaring errors that handed significant scoring chances to the hosts.”
Lucas Perri’s chances of long-term Torino stability assessed as Leeds United hope for £12m fee
For Leeds, we just have to hope that he continues to regain his confidence after a tough year at Elland Road.
That £12million buy option isn’t out of reach for Torino. That’s especially true if they end up finishing in the top half with Perri playing well.
However, the writer here is clearly unhappy with Perri’s consistency and wants to see these sorts of ‘mistakes’ eradicated.
“At this delicate stage of the season, Torino least needs incidents like these – moments that only serve to complicate matches, which, on paper, are set to become even tougher following the international break,” the report continues.
“Recently, Perri had appeared to become significantly more reliable, but his recent slip-ups against Frosinone could now call his position into question – and, more importantly, risk affecting the goalkeeper’s composure. Perri must therefore bounce back, starting with the next match, in which Torino will face Lecce.”
Having watched the goals back, it’s incredibly harsh to be this scathing on Perri’s contribution. Of course, his distribution has always been poor, and two of these errors come from that area of his game. But, there’s nothing he can do about either goal.
Lately, his shot-stopping has actually looked quite strong.
