Although Leeds United have started the new season well, some of our players are bound to be frustrated.
In football, this is inevitable. Daniel Farke addressed this last week with a funny analogy. For those players who are not regularly playing, Farke said he would not expect an invite to go on holiday with them next summer.
You would imagine Jean-Matteo Bahoya falls into this category. In our game against Sunderland, we lacked quality. The Frenchman had to watch Brenden Aaronson play ahead of him on the left wing.
Another player who is likely to be annoyed with his start to the season is Harry Wilson. A talkSPORT pundit recently issued a warning to Farke about the Welshman.
Dean Saunders warns Daniel Farke about Harry Wilson frustration
By now, we all expected Wilson to have played a bigger part for United than he has done.
Since his move to West Yorkshire, the 29-year-old has played just 231 Premier League minutes. With what he’s shown us so far, we’re not exactly clamouring to see more either.
Former Wales international and talkSPORT pundit Dean Saunders recently weighed in on Wilson’s start to life at Leeds.
Saunders admitted that Wilson has been far from his best and he can see why he has been left on the bench so often by Farke this season. This naturally will have the winger feeling frustrated.
“I’m sure Harry is getting slightly frustrated at his lack of game time. But Leeds are in great form at the moment. What they are doing is really causing teams problems,” Saunders said, as quoted by The Yorkshire Post.
“Although after saying that, I imagine Daniel Farke has a plan for Harry. He is extremely creative going forward. In games against the top sides in the league, I can see why Farke isn’t starting him.
“Harry isn’t the quickest, but he has a brilliant football brain that allows him to unlock teams. Creating chances and also scoring plenty of goals.
“I think Farke will use him much more often when they play teams that they expect to sit deeper against them, where creativity is more important than work rate.”
Saunders continued: “Harry will be frustrated about not playing, but I’m sure the manager is keeping him in the loop about his plans for him. He will want to play football, but I think if he bides his time, he will prove his value to Leeds in no time.”
Daniel Farke cannot make costly selection mistake going forward
I think our game against Sunderland proved that unless we really have to, we should avoid lining up with Aaronson and Wilson on the wings at the same time.
Both players naturally want to invert, and without a Noah Okafor or a Bahoya up there, for example, we lack a player with pace who can beat a man.
I know it’s early, but the criticism of Wilson is absolutely warranted. We know that joining us a free agent means he’s on big money, and as a team that is only in their second season in the Premier League, Wilson boasts some of the most experience in the division in the entire squad.
When we signed him from Fulham, part of the appeal was that we were signing a player in his prime who would come in and hit the ground running straight away. Without the need for a major adaptation period.
After his most recent performance, I wouldn’t bank on Wilson starting against Bournemouth. But if he is subbed on over the weekend, we need to see more from him.
Harry Wilson on the wing against Sunderland and was taken off. Now Farke have the chance to start Jean-Matteo Bahoya on that same wing against Bournemouth at the weekend.
There are nothing to loose for Farke. Let them fight for the wright wing.
