Leeds United welcome Roberto De Zerbi’s in-form Spurs to Elland Road, and the Italian is well aware of Daniel Farke’s setup.
The past five games have been a fair bit of a slog for Leeds and Daniel Farke. No wins and very little to shout about in the final third has been the core talking point.
Against Spurs, we have a chance to put things right before the international break. However, we’re facing one of the most in-form sides going.
“The intensity” – Roberto De Zerbi discusses Leeds United credentials ahead of Spurs clash
Roberto De Zerbi’s only ever Elland Road encounter came back in his Brighton days against Javi Gracia’s Leeds – a 2-2 draw in peculiar circumstances.
This time around, he knows what to expect from Farke’s Leeds, as he previewed the game from Spurs’ perspective on Friday.
In particular, the prospect of playing at Elland Road is something that De Zerbi is preparing the Spurs squad for.
“The focus is (solely) on Leeds. A very tough game. One of the toughest stadiums in the Premier League with the atmosphere of the fans,” De Zerbi told Spurs’ official site. “…We can’t forget the beginning of the season and the last season as well.”
Specifically touching on Leeds’ style of play, De Zerbi is intrigued by Leeds’ back five formation that quickly shifts into a back four when we have the ball.
“The intensity of Leeds is great, especially at home,” De Zerbi continued. “They have a clear style of play.
“Not many teams defend as five but build up with four, especially on the right side. But we have the right qualities to play a good game. Our target is to play well and get the right result.”
Massive test for Leeds United as Roberto De Zerbi continues Spurs revival
Spurs are seemingly on the up right now, and with that comes a massive test for Leeds to overcome. They will come to LS11 tomorrow with huge confidence, while we’re on the other end of the spectrum.
The atmosphere is going to be crucial. But the way the mood has shifted online, I’m not so sure we will be in a good place tomorrow lunchtime.
De Zerbi’s style of play could suck the life out of the crowd, as we face long spells without possession of the ball.
However, Farke’s confidence in his press conference shouldn’t be discredited. Let’s hope we’re on the cusp of a turnaround at Elland Road.
