Leeds United played out a 1-1 draw with their rivals Manchester United at Elland Road yesterday.
The Whites were intense, with plenty of tough tackles being put in over the course of the game. But Daniel Farke’s side did lack a bit of quality in the final third at times.
Aside from Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal, we didn’t create many clear-cut chances during the game. A header from Nico Elvedi in the first half was probably our best opportunity aside from the goal.
However, there was one Leeds player who caught the eye of Gary Neville, who was commentating on the game for Sky Sports.
Gary Neville claims Jayden Bogle is ‘in the mix’ for an England call-up
Despite a tremendous season last season and a strong start to the new campaign, Jayden Bogle still hasn’t received an England call-up.
During the game, Neville claimed that if England want a more attacking option at right-back, or if they ever play with a back three, Bogle should certainly be a player Thomas Tuchel considers calling up.
“They’ve (England) been quite blessed in that position in the past few years.
“Certainly, if you’re wanting an attacking option, the crosses he’s put into the box there. If they wanted the option to go to wing-backs, he’d be right up there.
“He’s been the biggest threat; his crosses and going forward, he’s been strong for Leeds.”
Neville was also very complimentary of Bogle’s energy during the game as he maurauded up and down that right flank.
Jayden Bogle cannot be far away from an England call-up
I just cannot see how Bogle doesn’t receive an England call-up at some point. Especially if he keeps performing how he has been performing for us over the last season or so.
He offers something completley different to a Jarrell Quansah, for example, who has started a few games for England at right-back recently.
The amount of ground Bogle covers on that right flank is extraordinary. He’s consistently one of our biggest attacking threats and is perfectly suited to that right wing-back role.
Neville pointed out Bogle’s delivery yesterday as the defender attempted six crosses in the game. (Sofascore)
I think one area that Bogle could improve in that would make him undeniable for an England call-up would be adding more assists to his game.
Last season, Bogle registered two assists, and this season, he is yet to register one. This doesn’t seem real at first when you consider how much good work Bogle does for us going forward.
But if he is able to add a few more assists to his game, that will make everyone have to sit up and take notice, especially Tuchel.
