Alan Shearer delivers sensational Sunderland vs Leeds United prediction
Leeds United take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light this afternoon.
Whilst Daniel Farke’s men were regarded as the favourites going into today’s matchup throughout the week, the potential of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Noah Okafor and Anton Stach all missing the game through injury has thrown a massive spanner in the works.
Chris Sutton predicted we would return to West Yorkshire with a point, drawing 1-1 at the Stadium of Light just as we did last season.
Now, Alan Shearer has had his say on the upcoming game, with the former Newcastle striker delivering a sensational prediction.
Alan Shearer predicts Leeds to beat Sunderland
I’m still hopeful that at least one (preferably Calvert-Lewin) of the three players who Farke labelled as major doubts will be fit enough to start today.
Because if not, our chances of picking up a positive result take a major hit, or so you would imagine.
In his latest Premier League predictions column for Metro, Shearer predicted that Leeds will beat this out-of-form Sunderland side, who have lost five and drawn one of their last seven Premier League games.
“Sunderland are struggling; one reason is because of Europe, and one reason is that they haven’t got Brian Brobbey in there; he’s been out injured,” Shearer said.
Brobbey has not played in the Premier League since scoring a hat-trick against Manchester City back in September. However, Regis Le Bris has confirmed that the Dutch striker will be back in time to face Leeds.
“It’s no surprise,” Shearer continued.
“I said that they’ll struggle this season because of the size of the squad that they’ve got. One of the players came out and criticised their performance and their hunger last weekend. But again, they’ll need a reaction. I’m not sure they’ll get it. I mean, the Leeds fans will come up in the thousands. So, I’m going to go away to win Leeds.”
Why Alan Shearer’s Leeds United prediction is a sensational one
If we do pick up a win with what is likely to be a weakened starting XI Farke is forced to field, it will be an incredible result.
Although Sunderland sit bottom of the table, they certainly won’t finish the season there. After all, they are a side who are in the Europa League this season. Their record in that competition has been impressive up to this point, with two wins and a draw in three games.
If we did win this afternoon, it would be our second away win of the season already.
To put this in perspective, we won only two away games in the entirety of our last Premier League campaign.
Turning more draws into wins on the road will take this Leeds team to the next level, and we’ll soon see if we can do it.
