Patrick Bamford is expected to commit his long-term future to Leeds United before the 2021/22 Premier League campaign begins.

Leeds have a keen eye on the transfer window as they look to evolve Marcelo Bielsa’s squad, who finished ninth in the Premier League last season.

However, there’s also hope at Elland Road that they can reward some of the existing squad with fresh terms, Bamford included.

As per a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds are hoping to sort the future of Bielsa and Bamford ahead of kicking off their season on August 14th against Man United.

Bamford’s current deal at Elland Road has two years to run, but after scoring 17 times last year in the Premier League, alongside seven assists, he’s deserving of improved terms and the comfort of a long-term deal.

The 27-year-old has made 110 appearances for Leeds since arriving at Elland Road from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2018. In that time, he’s scored 43 goals across all competitions, including 16 in the club’s promotion-winning season.

Bamford is completely deserving of a new contract at Elland Road. What he’s given the club over the last two seasons in terms of work-rate and goal cannot be rivalled. He’s been immense.

At 27, you would be tying him down for his peak years, which is another major reason why Leeds need to get the deal done.

Then, in terms of the timing of the deal, it would be good to get it sorted before the season starts. It isn’t the type of distraction Bamford wants hanging over him and, all signed and sealed, it would give him perfect motivation to hit the ground running on the first day at Old Trafford.
