Leeds United are targeting a replacement for Kalvin Phillips this week as they see the midfielder head to the Etihad and Manchester City.

The Whites have already significantly strengthened their squad ahead of next season, with three senior signings confirmed, while Darko Gyabi is expected to join from Manchester City for £5million.

However, in a simultaneous agreement, Leeds are set to part ways with cult hero Kalvin Phillips, who moves the other way to the Premier League champions.

Leeds are set to have at least £42million to play with after the expected sale of Phillips, and are in desperate need of replacing him with a top-quality defensive midfield option to complement Marc Roca.

Eyes immediately fix to one of the two European Red Bull outfits for what options they possess, with Tyler Adams and Mohamed Camara the main ones.

The Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth is now reporting that the club are monitoring both of these players, with Camara highly admired by Victor Orta and the club.

Is Camara a good Phillips replacement?

No

However, the same report also comes with the drawback that the club understand Camara would be one of the more expensive options currently available in the market.

The 22-year-old is currently valued at £24.3million by Transfermarkt.

If we turn our noses up at Camara on the price tag, perhaps we shouldn’t have sold Phillips for so little when other offers were on the table.

That sort of stance on replacing him isn’t going to fly with the fans when awe know the Phillips was sold on the cheap.

Pay the money to replace him with the best possible quality, and then the fans might be on board with this sort of model of selling your best players.

Of the options that have been linked so far, Camara looks to be the best out of the lot while being a great fit, so I can’t get on board with swerving it based on the asking price.
