Ryan Edmondson will leave Leeds United on a season-long loan this summer and is due to have a medical with Fleetwood Town today.

Leeds tied Edmondson down to a long-term contract last year before loaning him to Aberdeen and then Northampton Town.

Yet, there will be no opportunity for Edmondson at Elland Road in 2021/22, with the Yorkshire Evening Post reporting that he is due a medical with Fleetwood today.

The YEP claim that Edmondson is going to link up with former Leeds boss, Simon Grayson, and is due in Fleetwood today to complete a medical ahead of a season-long loan move to Highbury.

Edmondson, 20, has made only two cameo appearances for Leeds’ first-team despite a string of impressive goalscoring displays in the under-23s.

Only one of those appearances has come under Marcelo Bielsa and you have to go back to 2018 to find his last outing for Leeds.

Since then, he had a stint in Scotland with Aberdeen, who he scored twice for and also played in the Europa League. Edmondson then joined Northampton last winter, making 21 appearances, returning two goals and an assist.

This is another decent opportunity for Edmondson in League One.

He did reasonably well at Northampton despite their relegation, so the hope will be he heads to Fleetwood to challenge higher up the table.

Grayson is a good manager that will hopefully give the 20-year-old the opportunities he needs at this stage of his career.

Whether Edmondson ever makes it at Leeds we will have to wait and see, but these loans will shape his career and it’d be good to see him really get amongst the goals under Grayson.

We know he’s got it in him from his time in the under-23s. It’s now the time to see that in the senior game.
