Leeds United forward Tyler Roberts has pulled out of the upcoming international break with Wales as a precautionary measure.

Following promotion to the Premier League, the Leeds squad has been strengthened with a number of youth and senior internationals from the likes of England, Spain and Germany.

The Whites boasted a number of established internationals whilst they were still in the Championship, one of those being Wales regular Tyler Roberts.

Having scored the penultimate goal of Leeds’ title-winning 2019/20 season, Roberts was rewarded with another callup to Ryan Giggs’ Wales squad last week.

The striker has had a patchy career so far with injuries and another potential setback seems to have crept in with problems surrounding his past shin injuries.

The Yorkshire Evening Post are reporting that Roberts is to be withdrawn from the squad as a precaution to ensure he isn’t overloaded before the Premier League season.

The league starts with a trip to Liverpool on the 12th September so it’s set to be a tight turnaround with Marcelo Bielsa’s famously daunting pre-season schedule.

I think it’s a logical move from both the player and his national side given that they have rough quality in the attacking department not to heavily rely on Roberts’ contribution.

Leeds need their squad fit and firing from the outset to ensure they can steer clear of relegation, and Roberts’ attacking output will be hugely important.

While it might seem concerning at face value to see Roberts missing out through what could be an injury, it does look like the club are just wrapping him in cotton wool, given his past.
