Silly season seems to come round earlier every year, doesn’t it? We’ve just turned into November and the decorations are out, adverts on the tele and rubbish rumours are popping up all over local press outlets.

So what’s behind door number 1?

Middlesbrough’s Daniel Ayala to Leeds.

The lack of substance we see behind this rumour is plainly twofold.

Firstly, if Leeds were hunting another centre-back, then surely they’d have picked one up in Summer when calls from the fans were most loud. Yes, Cooper may have had an injury issue or two but the injuries were stacked far higher last season. Bielsa has demonstrated he is capable of covering in the case of injury. It’s also unlikely Leeds pay a fairly high amount, as they would in Ayala’s case, to have a centre-back be third choice.

The second reason comes in the original article itself. It seems to be covered with ‘agent talk’ about contracts. Both named players, Ayala and George Friend, have contracts that are up in Summer no naturally there is talk over whether they will be sold for some value this window but it is also highly likely this article may have been ‘planted’ to try and force Boro’s hand in negotiations.

As ever, it’s far too early to tell but this article just doesn’t seem at all to align with what Leeds’ recruitment department under Orta have been trying to do of late.
