The final preseason game is upon us, the only one to be played Elland Road. Usually you would expect to see the new away shirt and a team that’s likely to start on the opening day. Although last year we saw the home kit with Mowatt starting in the 10 role, only to see Grimes play v QPR in what was a truly horrendous game. Anyway, back to the future… This is the team I would go with to start against Oxford presuming there’s no more signings.

GK – Rob Green – I personally would keep Green as the number one, he deserves it after last season. Whether Christiansen feels the same way remains to be seen, I wouldn’t be shocked either way.

Into the defence…

  1. GK. Wieldwald – mainly because he looks more comfortable playing from the back.

    RB. Ayling
CB. Pennington and Cooper – Jansson has fitness concerns and also suspended
LB. Anita (60 minutes) – fitness concerns with Berardi. Give him 30 mins ready for Bolton.

    CM. O’Kane and Vieira.

LW. Alioski – lets see him with lineup potentially next to our strongest available 11.
CAM. Hernandez – Think we need to steadily build Saiz into the team.
RW. Roofe – Looked much better on the right in pre-season than he did last season on the left.

ST. Ekuban – I want to see Ekuban play in front of our strongest available 11. We know what Wood is capable of. We need to see Ekuban play in front of our most experience side.

Phillips has been brilliant pre-season but O’Kane needs his chance. Klich is struggling for fitness. Give him 30 minutes maybe. Why risk Wood against Oxford when we already know what he’s capable of? Sacko still needs to work on his end product – Roofe and Alioski are way ahead of him in terms of end product and crossing.

Dallas needs to work on his fitness – didn’t seem like he could play the attacking role, most importantly track back and help the left back against Eibar (which will he need to do a lot with Christiansen’s flat CMs and wide 4-4-2 formation. Ayling seemed to struggle on the left because of the lack of help when Eibar focused on the overlap down our left flank.

Bridcutt needs to step up his game. Phillips and O’Kane were proving their worth this pre-season and stepped up. Bridcutt needs to follow these two and do the same. As Vieira and Klich could be our possible strongest CMs.
