Who should start for Leeds against Fulham

|

A quick turn around after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Birmingham. A positive first-half display was then followed up with a horrific second-half in which Leeds never really got going. The first Tuesday night game for Leeds comes against Fulham who have maximum points from their first two games. Leeds and Garry Monk could really do with three points to get their season going – but who should start for Monk’s side?

GK – Rob Green – I can’t see Green being dropped this early on. He couldn’t do much with either of Birmingham’s goals. He did need treatment after jumping to punch a free-kick away but I’m sure it was nothing too bad as he was well enough to carry on.

Onto the defence…

RB – Luke Ayling – A strong debut from the former Bristol City man – probably one of a very few who can come away from the weekend with any sort of credit. More of the same, Luke.

CB – Kyle Bartley – He hasn’t looked too bad in the first couple of games but could do with someone next to him who isn’t Bamba ideally. I would expect him to start for definite.

CB – Liam Cooper – Bamba was awful on Saturday. He didn’t look assured with the ball at his feet and looked like he was going to get beaten everytime a Birmingham player ran at him. Cooper has to start in my opinion, especially considering Monk has claimed he is fully fit.

LB – Charlie Taylor – Not the best start to the season from him but I do think having no natural left-winger on the pitch made it more difficult for him. Hopefully back to his best tomorrow.

Into midfield…

CM – Kalvin Phillips – He looked decent when he came on the pitch Saturday and I think he’s given himself a great chance of being in the starting 11 for the Fulham game. He showed great energy and wanted to get on the ball and make things happen, his tackle was probably the only highlight of the second half.

CM – Alex Mowatt – Ronaldo Vieira needs taking out of the spotlight in my opinion. I think the crowd had a big effect on his performance on Saturday and I hate it when they get on a players back, especially a youngster. Mowatt had a good first half and I think he will keep his place, although Monk may prefer Grimes to sit deeper and allow Hernandez to play further forward.

CAM – Pablo Hernandez – He wasn’t the best player on the field but he certainly wasn’t the worst. I’d much rather him play further forward than he did on Saturday, at times he was dropping deeper than the centre-back’s to pick up the ball. We need him in those pockets between the opposition’s defence and midfield.

Onto the forwards..

RM – Stuart Dallas – Sacko got his goal but like a lot of the team, looked poor in the second half. I want to see Dallas getting at teams and taking on the full-back, hopefully he can do that tomorrow night.

LM – Kemar Roofe – The only surprise on Saturday was seeing him dropped. I’m sure he’s going to start tonight – we certainly missed him against Brum. Whether he plays as a front man or on the wing I’m sure he’ll make his mark tomorrow night. I’m counting on him to bag a goal.

ST – Marcus Antonsson – It’s him or Wood in my opinion, and Antonsson looked a lot more mobile than Wood. He wanted the ball in behind, he held it up well when he had to and he should’ve had two goals on Saturday – I firmly believe he can lead the line on his own.

Two disappointing defeats in the League so far so we need an encouraging result tonight. I’m saying 2-1 Leeds – we’ll go 2-0 in front and then concede to set up a nervy finish. Come on Leeds.
