It goes without saying that your own result is the most important. But when does the Championship ever follow football’s simple rules? The performance of others can go a big way in directing the final outcome of the table.

Some of the loudest roars in Elland Road can come at the end of the game when a fellow contender has dropped points, or Man United have lost an easy game (again).

So who do Leeds’ promotion rivals face this weekend?

Firstly, West Brom play host to Sheffield Wednesday. We know from experience that Wednesday aren’t an awful side and they very effectively killed out the game against Leeds to make for a very boring 0-0 draw. Wednesday have suffered somewhat this month and are 3 games without a win. West Brom are coming into the game from back to back wins, so look like the likely victors here.

They’ve scored more than any other team in the division and already have 3 individuals on 5 or more goals for the season, a very significant virtue. A trip to Derby County, now 16th, shouldn’t prove too difficult, a team embroiled in controversy have struggled to get any consistent form going so far.

So it looks like Leeds will have to be on their toes in London again this Saturday. As ever, this isn’t a division looking to do Leeds many, if any, favours…
