White Christmas? A Look at Leeds’ Christmas Schedule

Leeds head into the traditionally exhausting Christmas period on the back of 5 straight wins.

Even more remarkable is the fact they have conceded just one goal in these 5 games. Considering we have started most games with two unnatural defenders, Leeds can be immensely proud.

Heading into Christmas if this form can be kept up, we are clearly in the driving seat for promotion and our fate come May would be very much in our own hands.

Firstly, Leeds travel to Aston Villa in our final game before Christmas Day. At the time of writing, Villa sit 8th in the table. Though for me they are easily one of the best 6 sides in the league. Unbeaten since October, they have had a strong recovery from their poor start to the campaign and will be looking to take points off the higher teams to squeeze the gap on promotion. Leeds will be bolstered by the news that Villa are set to be missing starman Jack Grealish.

On boxing day, Leeds play host to Blackburn Rovers. It was at Ewood Park in the reverse fixture that the whites suffered one of their only 3 defeats of the season and we know Bielsa will be itching to learn from that game and set the record straight. Blackburn have struggled for consistency this season. They have recorded some big wins against Stoke, Sheffield Wednesday and erm…Leeds. Rovers have made themselves a tough side to beat, losing just 5 all season, putting them on a par with West Brom in that respect and ahead of Sheff U.

In their final game of 2018, Leeds welcome Yorkshire rival Hull City to Elland Road. Hull are experiencing an under-par season so far but they are just one of those teams were beating Leeds is as good as promotion for them, so we have to be wary. A couple of impressive wins over Brentford and QPR have given them some breathing space from the relegation zone, and there is potential for them to build some momentum before this fixture.

New Year’s Day will be perhaps the toughest fixture of this run as Leeds visit Nottingham Forest. Forest will be keen to avenge Roofe’s late equaliser in the 1-1 at Elland Road earlier in the season. Leeds will be hoping Forest have their confidence knocked over the Christmas period as they face an extremely difficult schedule with games against Derby, QPR and Norwich before they face Bielsa’s boys. On the contrary though, some decent results in those games and they’ll relish anyone and everyone. Forest have been heavily reliant on their striker Lewis Grabban this season, who has amassed 15 goals thus far. Though hopefully Roofe will once again be at hand to nullify any threat.
