Leeds United’s pursuit of Juventus’ Weston McKennie could see the club make another hefty investment as they aim to improve the side under Jesse Marsch.

The January transfer window is due to shut on Tuesday night and Leeds have plenty of business to attend to in the coming days, knowing that an arrival or two is going to be key in the youth and senior ranks.

A central midfielder looks to be the final piece of the jigsaw for Leeds to consider this transfer window a complete success.

Weston McKennie is the central player Leeds look to be keen on signing this month, as reports emerge from Fabrizio Romano that the club have agreed personal terms for the player to join the club.

What stands in the way for Leeds agreeing a deal to bring the USMNT midfielder to Elland Road is agreeing a fee with Juventus.

Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has reported that Leeds are going to need a fee between €30-40million (£26.5-35.2m) to see the Serie A side sell McKennie.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Transfer Show, Plettenberg stated:

“We’re hearing the same thing about Weston McKennie and the possibility of him going to Leeds here in Germany.

“McKennie has the same agent as Brenden Aaronson at Leeds, and we’re hearing Juventus have set a price tag of between €30m and €40m because he has previously been linked with Borussia Dortmund.

“He is open to joining another club.”

Will Leeds sign a midfielder before the January deadline?

Yes

Yes

No

No

That’s a lot of money for the club to be spending on a new midfielder, but it’s definitely a case of needs must for us right now.

The arrival of McKennie would put us in a position where relegation should be avoided, given the relative strength of our side compared to others in the league.

Where we’re finding this money isn’t clear, but you’d think that the San Francisco 49ers are putting their money where their mouth is right now.
