Injured Leeds United attackers Rodrigo and Raphinha are doubtful for the home match against Liverpool on Monday night, Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed.
Leeds have dealt with injury setbacks remarkably this season, and find themselves in with a shout of European qualification because of it.
A win over Manchester City pushed Leeds into the top half, but came at a price as Raphinha took a big knock late on.
After Stuart Dallas’ winner, Raphinha broke clear before his compatriot Fernandinho hacked him down with a strong challenge.
Raphinha took to Instagram story to show off his bandaged thigh after his hefty collision.
Due to this knock, he remains a doubt for the clash against Liverpool, while Rodrigo is pushing for a first-team return too.
The Spanish international has struggled for fitness and consistency since joining and suffered a setback last week.
Phil Hay revealed that it was only a minor setback for Rodrigo as he missed out against Man City.
As Leeds prepare to welcome Liverpool to Elland Road, Marcelo Bielsa has delivered the latest on the pair. He stated, via Leeds Live:
Raphinha’s recovering from a knock at City. His evolution, we will see in the next couple of days.
He received a knock in his thigh. This knock caused an internal hematoma – Raphinha that is.
Rodrigo – process of recovering from a muscular injury obtained last week.
It’s been such a frustrating time for Rodrigo. He’s not had much chance at all to gain any momentum in the first-team this season.
Raphinha, meanwhile, will be annoyed that such a challenge from Fernandinho wasn’t punished with a red card.
It was a cynical and badly aggressive swipe from the Man City man, and how he avoided a red card baffles me.
Hopefully, it’s not a lengthy setback for him.
Fingers crossed too that Rodrigo is close to a return, because we’re a better side when he’s playing.
