Cody Drameh’s future at Leeds United remains up in the air ahead of the Premier League’s return later this month and the lingering January transfer window.

Leeds have Rasmus Kristensen and Luke Ayling ahead of Drameh in the pecking order right now and a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post looking ahead to January conceded that there looks likely to be transfer in 2023, with Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund amongst the clubs interested in signing the 21-year-old.

Since then, Jesse Marsch has conceded he’s been impressed by Drameh in training, offering up 30 minutes of action in Kristensen’s absence in last week’s friendly against Elche.

Our writers Kris (FA5) and Alfie (N12) discuss Drameh’s situation once more as January approaches fast:

I think he’d be very naive to leave Leeds for somewhere else that won’t provide him good enough game time.

That means that Newcastle United’s interest shouldn’t really do it for Drameh, knowing he’ll be getting next to no chances ahead of Kieran Trippier.

There are attractive, big clubs out there that could be more worthwhile for him, including Borussia Dortmund.

If he wants to go anywhere with a proven track record of developing young English talents, he doesn’t have to look any further than there.

He needs assurances, though, any move away from Leeds won’t be enough for him and he’d be better off staying if so.

In what year was Cody Drameh born?

There is a lingering feeling that Drameh will be on his way in 2023, yet there’s a little bit of hope Leeds can convince him to stay.

Drameh is hugely talented and is clearly very highly-rated at Leeds. He’s got two senior right-backs ahead of him in the pecking order right now, but there’s absolutely no reason why he cannot back himself to oust either player in the pecking order.

Kristensen is a summer signing and he will take more ousting, yet Ayling is out of contract in 2023 and him moving on would represent an instant promotion for Drameh. When you think about injuries, suspensions and general losses of form over the course of a season, Drameh can expect chances to come his way if he sticks it out.

Let’s be fair, whilst he’d get a good move to the Championship and a chance of regular games, his situation in moving to a Newcastle or Dortmund wouldn’t be any different to what it is at Leeds. He’s not going to go to either club and become an instant starter.

Fingers crossed Leeds can drill that point home to him and convince him that, long-term, Elland Road is a place he can progress and become a Premier League starter.
