Leeds United face a tough decision to make with midfielder Mateusz Klich on the fringes of involvement in the first team this season.

The Whites have have to part ways with star players this summer, but they have also seen a handful of other senior players leave too.

Jesse Marsch has had to make decisions that are the best for both the players and his progression of this squad in the summer, and he’s got another to make.

Mateusz Klich was an unused substitute in the friendly win over Cagliari, and Marsch was unable to commit on an answer regarding his future at the club, where he had this to say (via Leeds Live):

“I don’t know yet. Listen, I really like Mateusz and his mentality has been great. He, understandably, really wants to go to the World Cup.

All of our guys are trying to figure out how it all fits and it’s an important four or five months for a lot of players. I like having Mateusz here, he’s a great guy and he’s put a lot into this, so we’ll see what happens.“

After these comments, our LeedsAllOver writers Alfie (N12) and Kris (FA5) explore what this means for the fan favourite…

If Klich makes it clear he wants to move on, you’ve got to grant him his wish.

Leeds owe players like him everything for putting the club in this position. Kalvin Phillips got his move to Manchester City and, if Klich wants to leave, the club should allow him to pursue another opportunity.

It’s different reasons, of course, with Klich looking for regular football to secure himself a place at the World Cup with Poland. This could be his last chance at the tournament and he doesn’t want to pass up that opportunity.

From a selfish point of view, I’d love to see Klich stay and offer Leeds that midfield depth we’ve craved. It just doesn’t feel right if it’s what he wants.

In Archie Gray and Sam Greenwood we’ve maybe got to look to the future when it comes to that running, all-energy central midfielder.

It’ll be an emotional parting of ways with Klich, should it develop. But he’s going to leave with everyone’s blessing, which is a mark of the player he’s been for the club.

Should Leeds sell Klich?

No

I’m in the same boat as Alfie here, that I think it might be for the best for Klich to leave if he does have desires to be playing regularly, as he deserves to.

That said, if he wants to stick it out here, then I would be delighted to see him remain, because he’s one of the main players from that iconic promotion-winning team that resonates with fans.

Losing him would be a really tough one to take, but it would be better for his career to be playing week in, week out, especially during a World Cup year – a competition he has never played in.

The signings of Tyler Adams, Marc Roca, and Darko Gyabi all highlight that the club is looking to head in a different direction, much like they have done with Kristensen and Drameh pushing Luke Ayling down the pecking order.

We currently have arguably five midfielders that are ahead of him in the long-term, and that won’t be something he will want to remain the case.

As time passes, these conversations are going to become more frequent, but it will be an emotional one seeing such a loved character leave the club.
