Leeds United‘s Director of Football Victor Orta remains a target on Chelsea‘s four man shortlist as the club prepare to set up interviews for their Sporting Director role.

The Telegraph first reported that the merits of Orta had been discussed among other candidates as they continue their search to fill the void in the post. The Spaniard was revealed as an option after Christoph Freund decided to stay at Red Bull Salzburg.

Orta’s ‘merits’ at Leeds are certainly divisive within the fanbase. The Leeds Director has been at the club since 2017 having also spent time in England with Middlesbrough previously and in his native Spain with Sevilla, too.

Chelsea’s new owner Todd Boehly has been seeking a replacement for club legend Petr Cech who left his role as technical and performance advisor in June.

The Mirror are reporting a four man shortlist has emerged, which includes Orta. It also includes the likes of former Celtic talent scout Lee Congerton of Atalanta, Monchi of Sevilla, and Rui Pedro Braz at Benfica.

They added: “Luis Campos was also of interest but is staying at PSG.”

Sources close to LeedsAllOver are led to believe Orta would be interested in speaking to Chelsea regarding the role.

Orta has done more good than bad. His arrival at the club showed a slow change in fortunes but his biggest achievement was in bringing Marcelo Bielsa as head coach.

The Spaniard may have occasionally made the odd transfer howler, but what recruitment team doesn’t sometimes, even in the data driven era of transfers?

He was instrumental in the improvement of the transfer strategy and working alongside Bielsa helped the club gain promotion back to the Premier League for the first time in over 16 years.

However, is he replaceable? Maybe, and if his intention is to go find a new challenge then Leeds should grant him that along with their best wishes.
