Leeds United forward Willy Gnonto is set to continue with an important role for Italy under Roberto Mancini as the international break looms.

Leeds have two more fixtures in the Premier League before a fortnight’s break from action as international football returns.

The back end of March will see plenty of Leeds’ current squad jet off to take part in a series of fixtures for their respective nations.

Who could be called up to senior squads?

Leeds are set to have a number of players away on international duty this month, with the USMNT trio Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams, and Weston McKennie all expected to be involved.

Max Wöber is set for Austria involvement, while Crysencio Summerville and Pascal Struijk could be named in the Holland squad.

Marc Roca could be called into the Spain side for the first time under his former under-21 manager Luis de la Fuente, and Rasmus Kristensen should also be named in the Denmark side.

Willy Gnonto is expected to be part of Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad too.

Has Mancini spoke about Gnonto?

With the Italian set to be called up yet again this month, Gnonto comes back into the Italy fold with far more experience under his belt.

The last time Gnonto was in the national side was when he had just joined Leeds and was still aiming to get into the first-team, but now has cemented his place as one of the most important attackers in the side.

When speaking about his Azzurri attacking options, Mancini was keen to pinpoint Gnonto as central to his plans (via Il Messaggero):

“Ciro Immobile is out, Giacomo Raspadori is in doubt. We don’t have a regular starter except for Gnonto who plays a little more consistently for Leeds United. He can play as a centre-forward.

“Gianluca Scamacca is also coming back from an injury, and Andrea Belotti doesn’t play much. We have options in midfield and defence, but we have problems in attack. Not because we have no talents, but because they don’t play.”

It’s great to see Mancini is trusting the younger options he has in the Italy ranks, with not only Gnonto getting chances, but others too.

Gnonto has looked really good in his Italy stints and has since been a vital cog in the Leeds setup.

It’ll be exciting to see him playing for his country again after so much development in such a short space of time.
