Leeds United’s 2022/23 pre-season schedule is underway with the players being put through the paces already.

Monday marked the return to training for a large portion of the Leeds squad, as they began work ahead of what could be a promising Premier League campaign.

New signings have joined the club while existing players will be looking to build on a narrow escape from relegation last time out.

It’s exciting to see the club back putting in the work ahead of Jesse Marsch’s first summer at the club.

Here, we look at two players we think are worth keeping an eye on as pre-season gets underway…

Marc Roca

First up is an obvious choice in new signing Marc Roca.

The Spaniard is the only of leeds’ summer signings to report for pre-season from the off, with both Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen having a longer break due to their international duty.

However, we’re expecting a strong first impression from Roca, if his initial commitments are anything to go by:

“After the deal had been completed, Leeds told him to report back for pre-season when the rest of their international players returned, a little later than the rest of the squad. However, Roca reminded them that he was not an international and said he wanted to be there for the earlier date, ready to go from day one.”

The Athletic

Roca won’t have been slacking at Bayern Munich, but a chance for regular playing time in the Premier League seems to have sparked a great sense of motivation in Roca that sees him as one to watch in June and July.

Not only that, but it’s brilliant to actually see a new midfielder at the club after so long of needing one.

Sam Greenwood

It would be easy to point to Joe Gelhardt as the main youngster to watch in pre-season, but Leeds have another gem on their hands in Sam Greenwood.

A fresh pair of eyes in Marsch allowed for different players to step up to the plate in our survival push, and Greenwood’s involvement came as something of a surprise.

However, his performances will have been no shock to Marsch, as he managed two assists in some overall very impressive performances off the bench and from the start away to Brentford.

Playing two up front plays more to Greenwood’s strengths, and while the club ought to add more firepower this summer, Greenwood’s development in 2022 is a joy to watch.
