RWB – Gaetano Berardi – Berardi has spent the most part of the season playing at Left-Back but a slight tweak could see him switch to his favoured Right-Back position, although he’ll be more advanced in a 5-3-2.
CB – Luke Ayling – At the end of the Preston game we saw Monk adopt a five-man defence and this saw Ayling slot into the right hand side of Leeds’ central defence. Providing this is the way Monk goes Ayling isn’t a stranger to the central defensive position as he featured there for Leeds in their 1-0 victory over Derby as well as in the League Cup against Liverpool.
CB – Kyle Bartley – Bartley was back to his best on Saturday and showed why he is one of the Championship’s best at dealing with physical forwards. A change in Leeds’ formation could see Bartley play at the heart of the defence with Ayling and Jansson either side of him.
CB – Pontus Jansson – It looks as if whatever happened between Jansson and Monk has passed and the Swedish international was back to his passionate best against Preston, the celebrations at the end were brilliant to see. Jansson will start whatever formation Monk goes with.
LWB – Charlie Taylor – If we did go with the five at the back formation this would really suit Charlie Taylor. As an attacking full-back he was easily one of the Championship’s best and could cause Newcastle no end of problems, three centre-halves would allow Taylor more freedom to attack.
Into the midfield…
