Leeds United target Nico Gonzalez looks set to snub Brighton in favour of a move to Fiorentina.

The Whites are in the market for a forward or two this summer with Marcelo Bielsa keen to address his attacking options going forward.

His main options have been a joy to watch in the Premier League so far but adding more to his squad would give more chance of consistency to the Whites next season.

One player linked with a move was Stuttgart star Nico Gonzalez, as The Guardian reported he was on the club’s radar last summer.

The Argentine has been in solid form for the Bundesliga side, scoring six and assisting two in 15 appearances in 2020/21, after helping them to promotion in 2019/20 with 14 league goals.

Despite Leeds’ interest, it seemed this week as though Brighton were to win the race for his signature according to the latest from The Guardian.

However, now the Seagulls also look set to miss out as The Athletic’s Andy Naylor has revealed Gonzalez has opted for Fiorentina over Brighton in a deal worth up to £23million.

It’s a good signing for the Serie A club and there’s no surprise to me that he’s cause a bit of a bidding war.

Brighton’s investment has been solid under Graham Potter and it looks as though this could be a bit of a blow to miss out on Gonzalez.

They’ll have other targets though, as Leeds will too.

I’m not going to lose sleep over Gonzalez going to Fiorentina, even if it’s a solid signing for them.
