Tottenham courting Patrick Bamford is pressing Leeds United into finalising a new contract for the striker.

Leeds were beaten 5-1 at Manchester United yesterday and Bamford struggled. However, his stock has never been higher following 17 goals and seven assists last year in the Premier League.

There’s interest from elsewhere in the Leeds man, naturally, whilst the club also want to tie the 27-year-old to a new contract.

As per The Telegraph, Leeds are looking to agree a new contract with Bamford, who has two years left on his current deal at Elland Road. That’s driven by Tottenham’s interest in the striker amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Harry Kane.

Bamford was second to only Kane in terms of English goalscorers in the Premier League last season, scoring 17 in comparison to the Tottenham man’s 23.

However, he was overlooked for the England squad at Euro 2020, leaving Marcelo Bielsa working with Bamford over the course of pre-season.

Leeds’ season got off to a poor start yesterday, with Manchester United 5-1 winners against them at Old Trafford.

If (and let’s be fair, it is a big if) Kane leaves Tottenham, of course they are going to look at someone like Bamford.

He scored a lot of goals last season and, despite his importance to Leeds, would be a relatively cheap signing for Spurs.

However, if Leeds can strike this new agreement with him, it changes everything and probably shuts down the chance of him leaving.

Bamford is key for Leeds and the club deserve his loyalty. Hopefully when an agreement is struck, the striker can rediscover the form he showed last season and put a disappointing opening day behind Bielsa’s side.
