Patrick Bamford will join Luke Ayling in featuring for Leeds United’s U23s this evening against Manchester City.

Leeds have been without the pair since September’s clash with Newcastle United.

It was confirmed in the build-up to Leeds’ trip to Brighton on Saturday that Ayling would be in the U23s having recovered from minor knee surgery.

As for Bamford, there was little update apart from the club dropping a training ground video of the striker in light training.

Now, Phil Hay has revealed that Bamford is set to step up his return from an ankle injury with minutes in the U23s against Man City this evening.

As you might imagine, that has been well received amongst the Leeds fans:

This is really big news.

Nobody was sure when Bamford would be returning and last week’s video of him in such light training with Robin Koch suggested it was still a while off.

However, he’s ready for U23 football, which feels like the last hurdle he’s got to overcome before he gets himself into first-team contention.

If that can come on Sunday against Brentford, it would be great for Leeds.
