THE RETURN OF NO-NONSENSE

What’s the over-riding feeling this Leeds fan is getting from the Cellino regime? I think there were several hints last season, as soon as il Capitano entered the building. The guy doesn’t suffer fools, doesn’t like to fanny about, and has a built-in bullshit detector. In a nutshell, he’s not a man for nonsense. And that’s an ethos that seems to be shaping our club, and hopefully our new team.

Does The Hock look like he’s a man to take any truck from players in training? Nope – he looks like a man who should be putting raw young recruits through hell on an army assault course. Did Massimo fanny about when Ross McCormack became the subject of a serious interest from a second-rate London club with parachute payments in their pocket? No. He told them the price had eight figures in it before the decimal point. Did he waste time when a potential new centre-half didn’t quite look or sound the part? No. He politely said thanks but no thanks to the young Swiss stopper. Does our potential new playmaker, Snr Viviani look like he worries about putting his foot in at every possible opportunity? Even if we don’t get the young Italian in the end, he is exactly the kind of character we need. No nonsense.

The Cellino effect will drip down and rub off; we already have players who have that single-minded approach in them if only someone can drag it out of them – Pearce and spring to mind.

A successful team needs that ‘No Nonsense’ approach. You could construct a retro eleven to prove such a point that includes the likes of Charlton, Hunter, Bremner and Jordan from the Revie era, and Sterland, Batty and Vinny from the Wilko era just for starters. I hand that task over to the reader (a no-nonsense keeper might prove more of a search) but I’m sure someone will take up the challenge. But, in the true Cellino spirit, take no prisoners, take no nonsense.

Cellino may have to admit his first mistake after last night’s performance. Embarrassing!

GOT TO AGREE WITH BLUESMAN,EVEN AT THIS STAGE WE SHOULD HAVE ENOUGH QUALITY TO BEAT MANSFIELD,NO DISRESPECT TO THEM.REALLY DISAPPOINTED.i

What mistake did Cellino make last night? Give your head a shake Bluesman.

  • Bishwop says:

It’s a pity about last night but good in that it shows just how much work these players are going to have to do to put in to turn things around. I’m loving the new owners approach and agree it’s exactly what we need and have been lacking for as long as I can remember.k

Yep but better that we get it wrong in a pre-season friendly eh? That’s what they’re all about, isn’t it – finding out what needs working on? And I do think that Mansfield will have seen this as something more than a friendly; an opportunity to get a big scalp under their belts regardless of it being a non-competitive match in pre-season.

The Hock fell into the trap of:-
    a. We will have the fittest squad in the league.
    b. The players here are better than I expected and we are all pulling together.
Same view as Warnock and Brian M.
I will not be falling for those old mantras.
    Fit – Yes.
Fit to play for Leeds – No.
Luckily we have a few new players and (after the farcical pre-seson) more to come.
The ‘better than expected’ may be fit but they cannot pass the ball 5 yards, and they cannot think, on their feet, and they are slow in mind and body.
We have some fine young players, who can be slotted in amongst good solid professionals who can lead by example.
Don Massimo may have looked them all in the eye and seen determination, but he will soon realise that is not enough!
“It is a step up in class for us against Mansfield” said the Hock!!!
    Too true!!!
AND we had the luxury of using TWO full teams.

So very true mate. I have serious concern about those lines Hock has been throwing about.

Watch us BURN OUT and drop like flies with Injuries!

  • Lykewakewalker says:

Both Mansfield and Leeds are at the same stage of pre season training, the difference is that they have a manager and we have a puppet. After the game Hockaday came out with the statement “Mansfield set up to stop us playing and showed us respect but I couldn’t see them scoring unless we made mistakes”, well guess what fella, the Championship is full of teams like that and they will also have a lot more fire power than Div 2 Mansfield.
I am worried that he is not worried, I am not looking forward to the start of the season, with Hockaday in charge we cannot fail to be anything but a laughing stock. On the performances so far we will be meeting Mansfield again next year, in Div 1!!!

    • JOHN INGHAM says:

GOOD CALL LYKE,I REPEAT WE SHOULD BE BEATING THE LIKES OF MANSFIELD.I AM SO SICK OF TEAMS ‘WANTING’ IT MORE THAN US WHEN WILL WE GET THE WINNING MENTALITY BACK?WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GO TO GUISELEY AND MANSFIELD AND HAMMER THEM.HOCKADAY WON’T LAST 3 MONTHS AT THIS RATE.

Looking at the match last night I couldn’t but wonder how much we resemble last years inept team, Sure we kept te ball a bit better but we had absolutely no threat or pace up front. The difference is last year Ross was able to create somehting out of nothing but there is no obvious replacement. At the back we are still prone to crucial errors! Could be a long season.
