With one game remaining this campaign, Leeds’ fate is all but mathematically sealed and it’s clear that the Whites are going to be playing Championship football next year.
It’s important that Leeds get off to a good start when it comes to player recruitment. After only appointing Garry Monk at the beginning of June, it was clear to see that Leeds were behind the other top Championship clubs at the start of the season and I think their season suffered because of that.
One player who Leeds need to sign is Kyle Bartley. The £850k rated (according to Transfermarkt) central defender was a key member of Garry Monk’s Leeds site that flirted with the Championship’s top six for the majority of the season.
Since joining on a season-long loan from Swansea, Bartley has put in a string of top performances that has seen him become a real fans favourite at Elland Road. Leeds fans are very much in favour of him returning permanently but it may be tougher than some are anticipating with the 25-year-old still on the books of Swansea City, a side who look like they may well be playing Championship football alongside the Whites next term.
Any deal would almost certainly see Leeds pay more than the £850k Bartley is apparently worth but relegation for Swansea could scupper the deal before it has even been spoken about.
Bartley appeared 49 times for Leeds in all competitions last year and bagged himself 6 goals. When he was in the side Leeds kept a total of 15 Clean Sheets which is a massive improvement compared to seasons gone by.
He’s been one of Leeds’ players of the season and it’s clear how important he was to Garry Monk’s side. He would be a big signing and would show Leeds’ intent going into next season.
