Leeds United could be closing in on the signing of centre-back Diogo Monteiro this month, with the player in the sights of Victor Orta.
Leeds’ youth setup could always do with more signings, as Jesse Marsch continues to blood key talent into his senior squad.
The centre-back depth in the under-21s is potentially lacking right now, with Leo Hjelde departing on loan after Charlie Cresswell left in the summer on loan for Millwall.
Servette’s 17-year-old Diogo Monteiro looks to be the latest target of Leeds, with The Athletic reporting that the Whites are lining up a bid for the centre-back.
FIFA regulations mean that Leeds would not be able to sign the player to a professional deal until his 18th birthday, which is on Saturday, when the senior side are due to play in the FA Cup.
However, he could be making his way to Leeds to finalise a move this week, with the player sharing an update on his Instagram story at an airport:

Should Leeds sell Cresswell?
Yes

No

He could be on his travels anywhere, but with this week proving to be the one where he could officially join Leeds, it makes a lot of sense.
Monteiro wouldn’t be joining Leeds’ first-team right away, given that he’s a teenager and in need of far more development, but he’s a big talent.
Captain at youth level for Portugal, Monteiro comes to Leeds with a lot of prestige behind him at youth level already.
