Specsavers have weighed in on the debate behind West Ham United’s opening goal in this afternoon’s 2-0 FA Cup win over Leeds United.

Leeds fell to a 2-0 defeat in London with goals in either half from the Hammers.

However, the first – scored by Manuel Lanzini – came after a long VAR check, where West Ham players appeared to be in offside positions.

Such was the controversy of the decision there was plenty of talk over on Twitter about Lanzini’s opener.

Involved in the debate were Specsavers, who alluded to the fact that the goal was, in fact, offside and shouldn’t have counted.

Jarrod Bowen struck deep in stoppage time at the end of the second-half to give West Ham the win, with Leeds once again crashing out of the FA Cup at the third round stage.

They travel to the London Stadium to take on West Ham again in the league next Sunday.

It’s difficult to debate the offside decisions that VAR give as they are always ‘technically’ right.

However, Bowen is interfering with Illan Meslier in the passage of play that leads to the goal, which, you would think, results in offside.

Look, it isn’t to be and Leeds need to move on.

Specsavers, though, like all the Leeds fans, are just pointing out that the decision was, well let’s say, dubious.

Onto the next one.
