Reading FC midfielder John Swift is reportedly someone that Leeds United have an eye on ahead of future transfer windows.

Leeds are lacking in the engine room, with Phil Hay recently detailing how Marcelo Bielsa quietly admirers Swift.

Swift has scored eight goals and registered seven assists at Reading this season in the Championship. However, he’s set to be a free agent in the summer as his contract ticks down.

Kris (FA5) and Toby (Neutral) weigh up whether or not Leeds should make a move for the 26-year-old in January:

It would be a great signing in my eyes.

Swift is in the form of his life and absolutely flying in the Championship, so that alone would be enough to warrant taking a look at him.

However, the fact that he’s going to be at a bargain price and he’s someone Bielsa has stated he admires in the past, makes it a no-brainer.

I have to add the caveat to this that I don’t think he’s the long-term answer to our problems in the number eight position.

While he’s only 26 now, I would like us to have a look at more of an investment in the summer, that is yet to hit their peak.

Swift solves a huge issue for me and I would love to see him join.

It would seem to make sense for Leeds to look to bring Swift to Elland Road in January.

Much was made of the fact the Whites didn’t bring in a midfielder in the summer transfer window, and Swift would obviously be someone who would fill that void.

Indeed, Swift’s goals and assists record this season suggests he would bring an extra attacking threat to Leeds’ side going forward, and that would be a big boost for the club, given they do seem to have relied largely on a few individuals for those all-important game changing moments this season.

It should also be noted that Swift’s contract situation means he could be available for a relatively small fee in January, and that Bielsa is said to be a fan of the midfielder.

As a result questions could be asked of Leeds if they were to let one of those other interested sides beat them to this signing, meaning it is surely one they have to pursue when the market opens again.
