Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani remains in talks with the San Francisco 49ers over a proposed takeover, following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

There is a lot that remains up in the air for Leeds despite clearing up which division they will be playing in next season, after their turgid end to the Premier League campaign saw them finish 19th.

Arguably the most important thing to resolve right now is the takeover of the club, with fans chanting for Andrea Radrizzani to “sell the club” (among other things) during the defeat to Tottenham.

When can we expect a takeover?

The expectation from fans was that information would come through from the club very quickly after the season’s conclusion about where we stand on a takeover.

Last week, The Athletic’s Phil Hay revealed that negotiations over a new takeover price were taking place between Radrizzani and 49ers Enterprises, having seen the initial £475million option evaporate with the club consigned to the EFL.

Meanwhile, the Italian businessman is heading up a new venture to complete the purchase of debt-ridden and relegated Serie A outfit Sampdoria, who are facing a points deduction unless a buyout by Radrizzani can be completed tonight, as they need to clear up unpaid wages.

Is Radrizzani about to sell Leeds?

According to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, the current majority shareholder is actively in talks with the 49ers over a sale, with the talks seemingly progressing as things stand.

He shared this on Twitter:

“Leeds Utd owner Andrea Radrizzani remains locked in talks with 49ers Enterprises over sale. Flew to US late last week to start brokering revised deal in event of relegation. Takeover hangs in the balance with a lot of work to do ahead of next season…”

Sky Sports added to this with claims that the takeover will include a transition period for Radrizzani and CEO Angus Kinnear, before they eventually leave:

Get it wrapped up as soon as possible.

We cannot afford to let the month of June be one where we struggle to get started on a rebuild to get out of the Championship.

The 49ers will know that they cannot waste any time in addressing every issue in this squad, and Radrizzani is key to allowing that.

If he keeps wasting time, we’re going to be set back massively in our quest for promotion next term.
