Stoke City midfielder Steven Sidwell is the latest “experienced” midfielder to be linked with a move to Leeds United.
Sidwell, 32, has bags of Premier and Football League experience and has amassed well over 200 first-team appearances during his career. He moved to Stoke on a free transfer at the end of last season, signing a two-year deal, but after just 6 starts for them it now seems he is surplus to requirements at the Britannia Stadium.
Leeds have been linked with plenty of players this summer already, including QPR’s Joey Barton but it appears a move for the former QPR man is off the cards. I believe Sidwell would be the “cheaper” option of the two, but would still command a fair amount of wage as well as us having to pay Stoke a fee with him still having a year left on his current deal.
Sidwell definitely fills the holding midfield role that we are looking at filling but whether it’s just paper talk or a true potential signing, I suspect we’ll find out in the coming days. Either way it’s nice to see us being linked with British players.
