After a fall back down to earth against Cardiff, it’s safe to say there will be changes for the game against Wednesday on Sunday. Here’s what we would go with:

GK – Felix Wiedwald – I am by no means convinced by Felix so far this season, but it’s too early to be pressing the panic button just yet.

Into the defence…

RB – Luke Ayling – Our best player against Cardiff, which means absolutely nothing granted, should be our captain for me.

CB – Matthew Pennington – With Cooper suspended Pennington will come back into the team and with a good performance, may find himself remaining there for some time. As well as Cooper has played before Cardiff, I believe Pennington is a superior talent.

CB – Pontus Jansson – Not up to his usual standards on Tuesday night, will be hoping to bounce back with a big performance.

LB – Gaetano Berardi – Cardiff wasn’t the best game for him to be thrown into, but I’d stick with him for Wednesday, he’s much more natural in that role than Anita will ever be.

Into the midfield…

CDM – Eunan O’Kane – O’Kane is fit to play against Wednesday and that will be a big boost, he’s been our most influential player so far this season and we missed him dearly in Cardiff.

CM – Kalvin Phillips – For some reason Phillips got a load of abuse after the game on Tuesday, no idea why really, he was no worse than anyone else. Kalvin and Eunan have built up a great partnership and until it doesn’t work anymore, they should continue.

CAM – Samu Sáiz – No messing about, Samu should be the first name on the team sheet for Sunday. You never know what’s going to happen when he has the ball, in a good way. I look forward to watching him every week.

Into the attack…

RW – Ezgjan Alioski – Alioski and Samu linking up is a sight to behold and is key to our success going forward. I’d expect this game to suit him nicely.

LW – Kemar Roofe – Roofe is in good form at the minute and Hernandez seems to disappear in most away games, so this would be a logical move.

ST – Pierre-Michel Lasogga –
Can only presume he didn’t play on Tuesday due to his recent air miles, but he must be a cert to start on Sunday. We need his physicality and his finishing, simple.

It’s a massive game on Sunday. If we win, we go into the international break on a high, if not, the doom merchants will be circling. Let us know who you would start on Sunday!

I agree with your picks but Ayling was not good against Cardiff. Gave the ball away far too many times.

  • Patrick Derwin says:

This is our best 10 at the moment but we need a new keeper. Felix is not the answer. Too many scary moments when the ball is in our box. I don’t trust him and that will impact on the rest of the team if they are worried about what he will do next.

Not for me. Time to drop out Weidwald particularly for a derby game. I would go with Anita to start with as he is much better going forward and a midfield of Viera, O’Kane and Phillips with Saiz, Lasogga and Alioski up front.
Roofe, Dallas, Beradi et al on the bench.
We need goals AND we need to be solid in midfield. I don’t want two weeks of international break in misery.

Drop the keeper, swap vierea for philips and definitely start with siaz and we should get the 3 points…mot.
