Mark Lawrenson has predicated a Leeds United win this weekend when they take on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Leeds head to Bramall Lane to renew rivalries with the Blades, who beat Marcelo Bielsa’s side to promotion in the Championship back in 2018/19.

Now, Leeds are back and ready to go toe-to-toe with their Yorkshire rivals once more.

Bielsa’s side have played their part in two thrillers so far this season.

Leeds were beaten 4-3 by Liverpool on the opening day, but were on the right end of the same scoreline a week later against Fulham.

For Sunday’s opponents, it’s two defeats in two, with Chris Wilder’s side failing to score a goal.

Ahead of the Premier League’s first proper Yorkshire derby since 2001, Lawrenson has offered his prediction for the BBC:

Leeds are up and running points-wise after seeing off Fulham last week and I think this will be another rock-and-roll type game with lots of chances, and lots of tackling too.

Both teams like to get stuck in, and this is going to be a good game to watch.

Sheffield United have no goals or points so far, but I think they will at least put the first part of that problem right in this game. 1-2.

We’d all take this, right?

It’s a tough game for Leeds this weekend, but a very winnable fixture if you strip it back and ignore our recent rivalry.

Of course, a Yorkshire derby is never easy, but this is a Sheffield United side struggling and there to be got at early on.

We’ve got to give them the respect they deserve; they won promotion ahead of us in 2018/19 and finished ninth in the Premier League last year. However, we should fear nobody.

If we attack with the same style we have in our opening two games, we will score goals and break them down. It’s just a question of tightening up and getting the rub of the green with VAR.

Fingers crossed Lawro’s prediction is bang on.
