Angus Kinnear and Victor Orta were at the forefront of Jesse Marsch’s sacking at Leeds United yesterday.
Leeds have opted to part company with Marsch just under a year after the American’s arrival at Elland Road.
The 49-year-old was sacked following Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest, Leeds’ 10th in the Premier League this season.
The Athletic have been detailing the timeline of Marsch’s Leeds exit, writing: “Marsch turned up for work as usual (on Monday) and was given the news by chief executive Angus Kinnear and director of football Victor Orta.”
Marsch has overseen only eight victories in his 32 Premier League matches in-charge, with just two of those coming in the last 17 fixtures.
At points this season, his job seemed vulnerable, saved, ultimately, by a big win at Liverpool and comeback against Bournemouth as October ended and November began. A run into the fifth round of the FA Cup has also been helpful.
Orta, despite his role in Marsch’s sacking yesterday, has been keen to make the appointment work, as detailed by The Athletic: “Orta was prominent in insisting Marsch should get as much time as possible.”
Michael Skubala, Paco Gallardo and Chris Armas will oversee tomorrow night’s game against Manchester United in the Premier League.
Quiz: Are these 15 facts about ex-Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch true or false?
When things are going wrong on the pitch, it always makes life difficult off it.
Leeds have some really passionate people at the top of the club and individuals whose voices deserve to be heard.
If someone is pushing in one direction, the likelihood is that someone else is pulling in another. That’s the nature of the boardroom when things are going badly.
Ultimately, whatever Orta wanted initially, he and the board have eventually made the right decision in moving Marsch on.
Another right decision has to follow, though, as they eye a replacement.
