Links to reported Leeds United target Matheus Pereira have gone cold, but his latest statement could kickstart his exit from West Brom this summer.
The Whites are in the market for a midfielder to add more depth to the side as well as keeping one eye on the winger market as options are looking somewhat thin currently.
Pablo Hernandez’s departure means the club now has a creative hole in the squad that could be filled by the current players, but also by the addition of a player who can offer similar options to Marcelo Bielsa in attack.
One player who presents similar characteristics is Matheus Pereira, who was relegated with West Brom last season despite his 11 goals and six assists.
The Daily Express reported that Leeds were one of a handful of clubs looking for a transfer swoop as the Baggies prepare for life in the Championship once more.
While there has been no offer from the Whites and no completed transfer for the Brazilian, he is now looking to force through his transfer away from the Hawthorns after releasing a statement outlining his desire to move:
A life-changing offer is on the table for the attacking midfielder, and plenty of Leeds fans were willing to weigh in on whether the club should pursue the wantaway 25-year-old…
I don’t think Pereira is ever going to be a player that the club are fully sold on signing.
Driving through a transfer after a ‘life-changing’ financial offer suggests there’s one key motivator in where he decides to go.
This isn’t to say that he wouldn’t improve our side, because he definitely would, but I just think he’s the sort of luxury payer we don’t really need as a priority.
We’ve got enough creative quality without him and we need a midfielder to come in that has the same energy levels as what we already have, rather than bringing in someone who needs to improve in that area.
