Yesterday was a day Ross McCormack joined an illustrious group. A group where only a handful of Leeds United players have achieved this in the past. The last player to do it was Brian Deane, almost 9 years ago. Scoring four goals in the same game is some feat, even in the second division of English football.
That’s exactly what McCormack did yesterday, away to Charlton – Leeds had lost their last four away from home, so it was a very important win.
The Charlton pitch was that bad the referee had to delay kick-off by half an hour in order to allow the ground staff to make it playable. McCormack didn’t have any trouble adapting his play, and looks to have struck up a good partnership with loanee, Dexter Blackstock. His first goal followed a deaf flick-on from the United number 9 and McCormack dinked it over the onrushing Charlton ‘keeper. His second was a penalty after a foul on Danny Pugh, the Scot smashed it straight down the middle. His third was a neat volley on the turn at the far post before he struck a wonderful free-kick to make it four.
McCormack is the thirteenth player to score four goals in the same game for Leeds in English football. Below is a list of players who’ve scored four in a game for the Whites.
*Gerry Henry and Aubrey Powell’s goals were during war time when United were part of the Football League Northern Section.
*Peter Lorimer and Alan Smith have both scored for the Whites in European matches.
What about Alan Smith v hapoel tel aviv?
European game, like Lorimer’s.
You didn’t specify that it had to be in a league match. Regardless, Viduka hit four past Liverpool, well after Deano’s.
Prediction: Matt Smith to score four in a match this season 😉

Deane was against QPR I think in his second spell at the club, 3-4 years after Viduka
