There was a big moment last week for Archie Gray at Leeds United, as the young midfielder signed his first professional contract with the club.

Leeds have high hopes for Gray, whose Great Uncle, Grandfather and Dad have all played for the club.

The 18-year-old has been on the outskirts of the first-team this season and was named on the bench by Javi Gracia at Wolves this afternoon, as Leeds picked up three points in a 4-2 win.

It was announced on Friday afternoon that the teenager had agreed his first professional contract with the club. That sees him contracted with the club for two-and-a-half years until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

Gray is starting to mix himself with the first-team squad at Leeds and the club’s official announcement on Instagram was full of congratulations.

Amongst the reaction was senior striker, Rodrigo, who laid out a simple response: “Congratulations my friend! 👏👏”

Rodrigo has returned to first-team action in the last two fixtures, scoring his 13th goal of the season in Saturday’s win over Wolves with a deft finish on 97 minutes to secure three points for Leeds.

Gray was an unused substitute.

We’ve seen very little of Gray so far apart from the odd friendly game, yet he’s very highly thought of and spoken about at Leeds.

He’s earning the respect of senior players like Rodrigo and that can only be a good thing for the midfielder. He’s got great pedigree and the opportunity is there now to kick on over the next two-and-a-half years.
