It’s been suggested that it will have to be Brenden Aaronson that forces a move to Leeds United this winter.
Leeds are hot on the heels of Aaronson and hoping to bring him to Elland Road before the transfer deadline a week on Monday.
However, The Athletic have already revealed that Leeds have seen a £15m bid rejected, whilst a £20m offer is now in the pipeline.
As per Leeds Live, a numbers of sources claim that RB Salzburg are under no financial pressure to sell Aaronson this month.
They want to retain the 21-year-old ahead of their knockout ties against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Leeds Live suggest, then, that if Aaronson wants the move to Elland Road to happen this month, he may have to make it clear to his club that he wants the transfer.
That would contrast what The Athletic claimed about Aaronson not wanting to depart on bad terms.
“One source said that Aaronson is aware of that desire and doesn’t want to leave Salzburg in a difficult position, but that he also feels that moving to Leeds to play under head coach Marcelo Bielsa would be a significant step up for his career.”
The Athletic have been on top of this story for a while now and have maintained that Aaronson will not want to force a move out of Salzburg.
That suggests that simply forcing a move is out of the question when it comes to the USMNT international. It will simply come down to Leeds bidding enough to get Salzburg thinking about a sale.
He does appear keen on the move to Elland Road and working under Marcelo Bielsa, which does weigh in Leeds’ favour in some ways.
However, the longer we are left waiting for some kind of development on a bid being accepted, the more you start to wonder whether the only way Leeds will land Aaronson is if he does force the move.
